A session to explore the minds of students in today's world of technology was sponsored by the Bridgewater-Raritan Education Association (BREA) on Monday evening, April 28. According to Laura Kress, the President of the BREA, the event, which was co-sponsored with the New Jersey Education Association, attracted over 20 families to the Bridgewater-Raritan High School cafeteria. The BREA, the Union that represents an estimated 1,200 staff members in the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District, held this free community dinner to give families the opportunity to listen to guest speaker John Mopper, who is from LPC of Blueprint Mental Health in Somerville. According to Ms. Kress, “his presentation addressed the unseen pressures and mind control mechanisms exerted by today’s technology-driven world. He explored how these forces influence students’ mental health, their ability to handle schoolwork, social interactions, and their overall well-being. He also discussed the different parenting approaches that are both helping and hurting their child’s ability to thrive in this modern world.” Ms. Kress added: “The families found it engaging and helpful. The BREA gave families games for the families. In all, it was a great evening.”

Thanks to the efforts of the host, Bridgewater-Raritan High School Student Council, children were kept busy, to the delight of their parents, on Thursday, April 24, when Take Your Child to Work Day was celebrated. Over 100 children paid a visit that day to the high school and they participated in numerous activities that included craft painting, crab soccer, making something out of clay, make and take recipe, cloud dough, bookmark station, panther lanyards, Math-O Bingo, fingerprinting, looking at hair samples under the microscope, jellyfish/coral painting and model building. The Bridgewater-Raritan High School Student Council also handed out fresh popcorn. The teachers were thrilled that there was so much for their children to do. Good job, Student Council.

Bring Your Child to Work Day will take place on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Students who participate must follow the district’s attendance guidelines for the absence to be excused. To have this day marked as an excused absence, families must complete the two-step process: Report the Absence – Enter the absence in PowerSchool before the start of the school day (prior to 7:20 AM) as you would for any other foreseeable absence. Designate the absence as “Take Your Child to Work Day” as the reason. Submit Documentation – Provide official written documentation from your employer where your child visited. This documentation must be submitted to the Attendance Office no later than one school day following the absence. Absences without supporting documentation will be marked as unexcused in accordance with the BRHS Attendance Policy.
