Cherry Mo, a Caldecott honoree, paid a visit to speak to students and staff at Van Holten Primary School on Tuesday, March 24, about her award-winning book.
At the session sponsored by the Van Holten PTO, Ms. Mo spoke about her book, “Home In A Lunchbox.”
A Caldecott Honoree is a runner-up for the elite Randolph Caldecott Medal, which is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children to the illustrator of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
According to Meghan Kilipla, the Library Media Specialist at Van Holten, as part of Ms. Mo’s presentation, she discussed her experience of moving from Hong Kong to America as a young girl. She also demonstrated how she draws her characters by selecting two audience members as models.
“Our students adore her book, so she was viewed as a celebrity! They were truly captivated when they saw her in front of them,” Ms. Kipila said.
The school was thrilled with her visit.
“Mrs. Kelly Kokotajlo (2nd Grade Teacher) created a personalized banner to welcome Cherry Mo's arrival,” Ms. Kipila reported.
