Staff members who practice devotion and care daily throughout the Bridgewater-Raritan Regional School District were honored when the Staff Recognition Reception was staged on Tuesday, May 6.

The annual affair, which is sponsored by the Bridgewater-Raritan Education Association (BREA), drew a crowd of an estimated 190, which included school district administrators, board of education members, school staff, and family and friends of the honorees, to the Somerville Elks Lodge.

The 22 honorees represented the 11 schools in the district—11 teachers were recognized as the Governor’s Educator of the Year, and 11 staff members were cited as the Governor’s Educational Services Professional.

The after-school ceremony was kicked off with a welcome from Laura Kress, the President of the BREA.

Superintendent Bob Beers followed with his speech that featured his admiration of the 22 award winners and the dedication and commitment that each produces in their valuable positions.

“What you do every day makes me proud to be here, and I believe everybody here in the room will agree to that,” Superintendent Beers said in his closing remark.

Each principal of the 11 schools then spoke of the exploits and efforts of their recipients, who stood up front at the podium and joined their principal during each of the individual school presentations.

Gifts from the BREA were then handed out to each honoree by Board of Education member Rebecca Hassouna and Kelly Kokotajlo, the 2nd Vice President of the BREA and a 2nd Grade Teacher at the Van Holten Primary School.
