Ellery Griffiths-Nemeth, Maya Patrick, and Kavya Shahane all remembered watching Frozen Jr. as young children.
Today, these 6th-grade students, members of the Drama Club at Hillside Intermediate School, will bring their childhood memories to life on stage.
They are three of the leading characters when Hillside’s Drama Club presents Frozen Jr on Wednesday, March 18, and Thursday, March 19. The show will begin at 7 p.m. for both performances that will be produced in the school’s all-purpose room.
Frozen Jr is based on the 2018 Broadway musical and brings Elsa, Ann, and the magical land of Arendelle to life on stage. The show features all of the memorable songs from the animated film, with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, plus five new songs written for the Broadway production.
A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, Frozen Jr. expands upon the emotional bond and journey of Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood.
The presentation will be brought on stage by Hillside’s three dedicated Drama Club advisors, Anna O’Brien, Patrick Blood and Isabella Halligan.
Ms. O’Brien predicts a memorable performance based on her experience during after-school rehearsals.
“They get along so well and are so positive with each other,’ Ms. O’Brien said during a recent rehearsal. “They are so positive and such a good group. I may be crying in the back during the show.”
Ellery, Maya, and Kavya all revealed during a rehearsal break that they enjoyed Frozen Jr. when they were younger.
“Frozen Jr. has a special place in my heart since I watched it years ago,” said Ellery, who will play the role of Elsa.
Fond memories of singing the songs from Frozen Jr are cherished by Maya, who will portray Anna in the show.
“I would sing 'Let it Go,' from Frozen Jr with my grandfather,” Maya shared.
Kavya also “watched Frozen Jr. and I love playing my role of Olaf.”
The enthusiastic coaching that the Drama Club advisors bring each afternoon makes practice fun.
“ We like our directors so much,” Kavya said. “I just love being here.”
