A historical performance at the state sectional meet has inspired the Bridgewater-Raritan High School girls’ track and field team as it prepares for the state group championships.
Bridgewater-Raritan will send nine girls to the Group 4 state championship meet on Friday, May 29, and Saturday, May 30, at Franklin High School.
They will seek to repeat their record-breaking efforts at the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 state sectional championship at Ridge High School on May 15 and 16.
Bridgewater-Raritan’s energetic coach, Dr. Adam Pyle, reported on the memorable showing at the state sectionals.
“We may not have won the state sectional title, but we took second place for the first time in program history,’ Dr. Pyle said. “We edged out Piscataway High School by one point, totaling 64 points. This is also the most points we have ever scored at the state sectionals.”
“The last time we performed this well was in 2007, when we finished third with 54.66 points, and in 2006, when we finished fifth with 57 points,’ Dr. Pyle stated.
Host school Ridge won the North Jersey, Section 2, Group 4 state title.
The standouts behind Bridgewater-Raritan's showing were the two state sectional champions—Madeline Corbitt, a junior who won the discus with a measure of 100’ 6’’, and the record-setting 4x800 relay team that consisted of senior Dahlia Adams, junior Sofia Daniels, freshman Mila Daniels and junior Lana Guelich.
Bridgewater-Raritan’s 4x800 team ran a school-record time of 9:45.88, which shattered the former record of 9:46.29 that was set in 2019 by Harrinee Senthilkumar, Rachel Pinho, Mia Squicciarini, and Kinga Niewandomski
Corbitt and the 4x800 runners will now bid to win the Group 4 state title.
