Trent Lavash of Bridgewater-Raritan High School was crowned the Somerset County Wrestling Tournament champion when he won the 215-pound weight class on Saturday, January 17, at Hillsborough High School.
Lavash pinned Evan Canica of Manville High School in three minutes to earn the Somerset County title at 215..
Four of Lavash’s Bridgewater-Raritan teammates finished with medals for placing in the top four of their weight divisions.
Matthew McCann, a 165-pounder, and 113-pounder Andrew Adell each placed second, while Carmine Vella finished third at 157 pounds, and Lucas Churpakovich was fourth at 126 pounds.
"A strong showing for Bridgewater-Raritan wrestlers," Coach Kyle Murphy said.
As a team, Bridgewater-Raritan, the Group 5 state tournament finalist last winter, finished in fourth place with 116.5 points.
Immaculata High School won the program’s first Somerset County championship when the school from Somerville scored 221.5 points. Ridge High School was the runner-up with 185.6 points and Manville High School placed third with 175 points.
