Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s distinguished Visual Arts department was recognized at the famed Carnegie Hall in New York City.

On Wednesday, June 11, the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers held the National Awards Ceremony for the 2025 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, the longest-running and most prestigious scholarship and recognition program for creative teens in the country.

The ceremony was conducted at the Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage in Carnegie Hall, where Bridgewater-Raritan High School’s Lucia Bolle, a sophomore student, and Art Teacher Sarah Nasson each was honored with a gold medal.

The ceremony celebrated more than 2,500 national medalists who traveled from across the United States, U.S. territories, military bases, and Canada, accompanied by their families and educators. The star-studded event featured speeches from special guests, including Tony Award winner Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, bestselling author Audrey Niffenegger, and stand-up comedian and actor Tracy Morgan.

Medals were awarded to the winning teens and their teachers.

Lucia, who this year was honored with the 2025 Art Administrators of New Jersey Visual Art Student Achievement Award, as well as the Governor’s Award in Arts Education during an elite ceremony on May 29 at the Bridgewater-Raritan High School auditorium, received both a gold medal for her artwork and the New York Life Award.

Underwritten by the New York Life Foundation, this award recognizes 10 teens with $2,500 scholarships for their work exploring themes of death and personal grief.

The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers believes that educators play a vital role in supporting and encouraging their creative students. So each year, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards recognize these educators during national celebrations and through various publications.

Ms. Nasson, who received a gold medal alongside her prized student Lucia, was awarded $600 for her achievements in arts education.

Congratulations to Lucia Bolle and Sarah Nasson.
