Social and emotional learning (SEL) involves the processes through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions (Casel, 2013).

BRRSD uses a variety of educational methods to implement research-based programs across the curriculum to support the five SEL Competencies in all grades and subject areas. It is our goal to provide One and All a welcoming learning environment where all can thrive and grow.

Red Ribbon Week

National Red Ribbon Week is a national leader for drug prevention, education, and advocacy across the United States. The National Red Ribbon Campaign started in 1985 to increase awareness to support families in navigating drug and alcohol issues in their community. The Red Ribbon symbolizes their commitment to drug and alcohol prevention across the county.

Week of Respect

The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act (P.L.2010, c.122) requires that the week beginning with the first Monday in October of each year be designated as the Week of Respect in New Jersey. To recognize the importance of social and emotional learning and character education, school districts, charter schools, and renaissance school projects are required to observe the week by providing age-appropriate instruction focused on preventing Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying (HIB).
