Graduation Letter for the Class of 2022

April 4, 2022

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Senior(s) of the Class of 2022:

Congratulations on a job well done in meeting one of the many milestones you will encounter in your life!!

We are in the process of planning the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2022.  With this advanced notification of our plans, we hope you will be able to make your family arrangements so that we can have a successful, memorable event.  The following procedures and rules have been established to provide a positive, dignified environment for you and your family.  Please take a few moments to read these procedures and discuss them with your graduating senior(s).

Graduation will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at 10:00 am at the John Basilone Memorial Stadium under the direction of the School Administration, the Senior Class Advisor, and the Graduation Coordinator.  Should weather conditions dictate, the ceremony will be held in the High School Gymnasium.  BRTV will be live-streaming the event. Details will be made available at a later date.

The processional march will begin at 9:15 am. Seniors will be assigned rooms to assemble for the processional; students should arrive at their rooms no later than 8:15 am.

1.     Each senior will be issued six (6) tickets for the outdoor ceremony and four (4) tickets for the indoor ceremony.  Because of the size of our senior class (approximately 700 students) and stringent fire code regulations, there will not be any additional tickets issued.   If handicapped seating arrangements are necessary, please complete the Special Seating Request Form for a maximum of 2 Special Seating Tickets by June 1 (these tickets will be counted as part of the maximum 6 tickets allotted for each student).  All tickets will be issued to the seniors at graduation rehearsal on Tuesday, June 21.  Handicapped parking is on a first-come, first-served basis.

 2.    A professional photographer from Normandy Studios will photograph all seniors as they receive their diplomas.  We cannot permit anyone to leave his or her seat for close-up photography.  You will be sent a Picture Order Form from the studio three weeks prior to the ceremony which will detail information about purchasing a photograph of your son or daughter with his/her diploma.  You are not under any obligation to purchase this picture.  To view photographs from events throughout the school year visit Normandystudio.com\brh .

 3.    Caps and gowns will be distributed on Tuesday, May 24 (last name starting with A to last name starting with L) and Wednesday, May 25 (last name letter M through Z) from 7:30 to 9:30 am in the Lobby of the 100 building.  The cost is $25.00.  (We will only accept CHECKS made payable to BRHS).  Students with outstanding school-related debts or obligations must resolve them before receiving a cap and gown.

 4.    Participation in the graduation ceremony is a voluntary activity; no one is required to participate.  However, if you do not plan to participate, please notify Mrs. Cimpko-Beller at dcimpko-beller@brrsd.k12.nj.us by June 1.  Students who decide to attend graduation are expected to adhere to the rules and regulations noted below.  Any student who does not follow the rules may be excluded from the ceremony.  Please review and discuss these rules with your senior:

  • All students will dress appropriately (business casual).
  • Graduates may not wear spiked heels, as it may damage the turf.
  • Graduates should not wear their caps and gowns to campus; graduates will be provided time to put on their caps and gowns when they report to their assigned room to line up to process onto the field.
  • Gowns may not be decorated; however, students may decorate their caps. The administration reserves the right to disallow any cap deemed inappropriate (guidelines will follow). If a cap is deemed inappropriate, on the day of the ceremony, the student will receive a replacement cap.
  • No alcohol or drugs will be tolerated at graduation. Students under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs will be excluded from the graduation ceremony and may be referred to the local police department.
  • Backpacks, handbags, or other satchels are not permitted.

Anyone who brings or attempts to bring any item inappropriate to the decorum of the graduation ceremony will be excluded from the ceremony.

 5.    The diploma cover will be presented during the ceremony.  Respective guidance counselors will issue the actual diploma after graduation.  Anyone who disrupts the ceremony will have their diploma withheld until they fulfill their disciplinary consequences, and a parent-student conference can be arranged with the administration.

 6.     Rehearsals are scheduled for Tuesday, June 21 (12:30 pm - 3:00 pm) and Wednesday, June 22 (12:30 pm - 3:00 pm). Participation in rehearsal is mandatory.  All students are expected to participate in each rehearsal; all students are expected to be prompt.  The only students who may be excused are those participating in on-campus college-related appointments/activities.  Please do not schedule appointments or work during rehearsal time.  Contact Dr. Greenberg,  kgreenberg@brrsd.org,  if you cannot attend rehearsal as a result of college-related obligations.

7.     The PTO will sponsor a lunch (pizza & beverage) for our graduates on Tuesday, June 21, in the large cafeteria at noon. (Rehearsal immediately following).

8.     Renaissance Cords will be distributed after graduation rehearsal on Wednesday, June 22, in the Library. To be eligible for a Renaissance Cord, students must have earned all “A's and B’s” from the fourth marking period junior year and the first three marking periods senior year.  The cost of the cord is covered by the PTO.

9.     NHS chords will be distributed in the Library after the graduation rehearsal on Wednesday, June 22. The cost of the cord is $10. If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Cimpko-Beller at dcimpko-beller@brrsd.k12.nj.us.

The success of a formal commencement exercise depends upon the cooperation of each member of the graduating class.  We recognize that this is a special time for the graduates and their families.  We want to ensure that we have a ceremony fitting for this important milestone for our students.   Alertness, promptness, and accuracy in all areas of the program are imperative in having a successful commencement exercise.

 Sincerely,

Christina Steffner, Interim Principal

Dr. Michael Godown, Assistant Principal

Vincent Del Priore, Assistant Principal
